Hedge Cutting & Hedge News
We have successfully applied for 120 sapling from the Woodland Trust which will be delivered in November. We will be arranging a community day for their planting. We still need 120 saplings to ensure we have enough cover for the intended 50m roadside space we are planting these in. We have applied for grants to provide the supporting retaining walls, soil, and removal of the iron fencing along the roadside as well as wooden posts & rope to create an attractive environmentally friendly boundary on the north (road) side.
We usually arrange for the boundary hedges to be cut twice a year - firstly in March/April and secondly in October/November funded with thanks by Blofield Parish Council. We aim to do this at these timings to better support the local wildlife. Once we have confirmed dates in the diary for hedge cutting we will post them here. The boundary hedges are cut to a height of approximately 2m high.
Hedges are cut by a professional company contracted by the Hall.
We are responsible for our side of the boundary hedge and neighbours sharing the boundary hedge are responsible for cutting their own side of their hedge, wether you have added an additional fence to your garden or not. If trimmings from our cut fall into your garden you are welcome to toss them back. Please dispose of your own hedge trimmings.
Hedges are now next due to be cut in APRIL/MAY 2026 or possibly later depending on growth & weather conditions. We are currently discussing moving this backwards to June/July to ensure we miss bird nesting season completely.
Some trimming by hand may occur where necessary between cuts - usually around the tennis court edges.
Tree News
We are aware of issues with 3 trees at our boundaries, or just beyond them on the Southern and Western boundaries. We are liaising with property owners including Norfolk County Council - as well as requesting advice from Blofield Tree Wardens to ensure we are doing what we need to to support the resolution of tree issues.
